Hyasynth Biologicals raises $10M in a financing round by way of convertible debentures led by Organigram Holdings. blue HF acted for Hyasynth Biologicals.
After having spent many years studying and practicing law in the City of Lights (aka Paris), in technology groups of large British and American firms, moving to Montreal was an obvious career choice when my wife (a Montreal native) told me it was time to seek new adventures. After a five year ride in the business law and technology groups of McCarthy Tétrault, I became convinced that practicing in a smaller, street-smart legal environment was the way to go. I landed at blue HF in 2010 and have loved every single moment of it since. My partners and colleagues are extremely talented, professional, and we also share the same values. This makes my blue HF experience a dream come true for a lawyer who tries, on the side, to cope with the exciting (and often daunting) challenges of my beautiful family of 4 kids!
From the blue HF staff: Not only is Julien our beloved managing partner, a great tech and corporate lawyer and our resident musician, but he also serves as our CWO (Chief Wine Officer) of great talent !

I began my legal career in business law in Montreal, longer ago than I like to remember. I then went to California for two years, discovered the world of technology start-ups, and that is what I have been doing ever since, first at a national law firm on my return to Montreal, then with blue HF, and finally on my own. Recently, blue HF lured me back, and I am thrilled to re-join this great team, allowing me to offer clients a broader range of services. I help my clients with day-to-day legal needs, contract drafting and review, as well as technology licensing and transfer, financings and merger and acquisitions transactions. Before becoming a lawyer, I studied in biochemistry/molecular biology, and this has been an enduring interest, along with questions of ethics raised by biotechnology. My other interests include hiking with my dog, skiing, reading, and trying to decide what drink goes best with chocolate.

After starting my career and having practiced commercial and corporate law for several years at Norton Rose Fulbright, a top tier International firm in Montreal, I felt the need for a new challenge, one that would allow me to work closely with clients, often with creative and entrepreneurial personalities such as myself. My move to blue HF has provided me with what I was seeking awhile allowing me to continue my professional progress by working with dynamic and highly competent lawyers in a variety of fields and throughout the lifespan of a company. Whether it be incorporation, general commercial and corporate matters, private debt and equity financing or M&A transactions, I do it all !

I began my career working at Norton Rose Fulbright, a large international firm, for 5 years before venturing to blue HF. This transition was motivated by a desire to work more closely with entrepreneurs in order to help them grow their businesses and achieve their objectives. At blue HF, I collaborate with a reputable and practical legal team with a common goal - to provide quality legal services at an affordable rate. My practice touches on all areas of corporate law, including equity financing, mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations and general corporate and commercial matters.
On my spare time, I enjoy playing sports with my friends, listening to music and spending time with my wife and daughter.

I would never allow myself to be listed as a consulting attorney for a law firm, but blue HF is special. And they did not tell me to write that. I have spent my career going back and forth between law and business – I have been Vice President of a web company, practised commercial law and litigation at a Montreal firm, and been marketing manager of a high tech firm. I now put all that experience together to specialize in a wide range of internet and technology legal matters, from privacy to online contracts to intellectual property and everything in between, consulting with blue HF on a regular basis since 2014. I also teach Internet and Privacy Law at McGill University.
Someday I’ll bring my guitar to the office so Julien and I can form the blue HF band.

After I completed my law studies in France and my LL.M at McGill University, I decided to settle and start practicing law in Montreal, at McCarthy Tétrault, a large Canadian law firm where I was involved in mandates in commercial law, intellectual property and privacy for technology companies. Benefiting from this valuable experience, I subsequently decided to pursue my practice of law with blue HF, an active law firm on a human scale, very aware of the business challenges of its clients. I particularly appreciate blue HF’s drive and flexibility towards its clients and its team. If we do not have the occasion to work on a mandate together, you can find me in the kitchen or around the dinner table. Indeed, intrigued and passionate about flavours, I regularly explore my creativity within plant-based culinary projects, each more colorful and imaginative than the last.
I had just graduated when blue HF hired me in 2012 for a temporary mandate. I was so excited when they officially welcomed me as a part of the team a few weeks later. I had been quickly attracted by the team spirit, the positive working atmosphere and the human side which permitted me to balance my work and family life. blue HF became like a second family to me over the years. I am proud to be a part of a business where the well-being of its employees is a priority. The paralegal profession requires a high degree of precision, concentration and memory. My family life (Hockey Mom), home decorating projects and maternity body molding are what I enjoy during my free time and brings a healthy balance to my life.
From the blue HF staff: Emilie really excels at what she does. And beware: she will track you down if you do not respond to her requests and follow ups !
My career path has allowed me to gain a lot of experience in different office environments as well as various departments. In 2013, I acquired my degree in Special Care Counselling, yes I know, very different career choices! After graduation, I got referred to blue HF and landed a summer contract while looking for a job in my field. Shortly after, the opportunity to become office manager was presented to me. With such a knowledgeable & dynamic team, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity! As a new mom I couldn't ask for a more family oriented work place. I am now in charge of finances, client and supplier relations, accounting and various other office related tasks. In my spare time, I really enjoy travelling & yoga but most of all, I enjoy quality family time.
From the blue HF staff: Shannon is our go to person for everything at blue HF. Her good mood spreads to the rest of us. We are lucky to have someone so well organized and dedicated to make our office life better. But beware: she will make sure to track you down if you are late in paying our fees… ;-)
Maluuba, a deep-learning company helping machines think, reason and communicate with human-like intelligence, closed a Series A round of $9M. blue HF acted for Emerillon Capital, one of the investors.
After completing my Administrative Assistant program, I had the wonderful opportunity to replace Shannon as Office Manager during her maternity leave. Never having worked in a small office environment, I quickly felt welcomed and at home. Once the contract had ended, I was disappointed to leave. A few weeks later, a new legal assistant position opened. With such an admirable team, it was an easy choice and I was ecstatic to come back. The work environment really allows me to be able to acquire new knowledge in this field daily. In my spare time, I truly enjoy expressing myself through the art of dance and working out in the morning before starting my work day!
